Newcomers and Neighbors Center Opens

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Newcomers and Neighbors Information Center at the Framingham Public Library, Downtown Framingham is now officially open. The Center, funded by the Carlise Foundation, and spearheaded by a committee of local leaders, in particular St. Rep. Debby Blumer, is intended to be a resource for people moving into the area.

A ribbon cutting reception was held on Tuesday evening, October 17th. Library Director Mark Contois welcomed the attendees and Center Coordinator Delia Weddleton gave thanks to all who helped with the efforts to help her get the center up and running. She also put out a call for volunteers to help man the center.

Diana Hwang, aide to the late Debby Blumer, was on hand to cut the ribbon and speak on behalf of Blumer. Hwang spoke of the center being a dream of Blumer’s that was now realized. She also said that Blumer’s office was still open for business until January and to please call if anyone needed help with district issues.

MetroWest Chamber President Ted Welte spoke in praise of Blumer and all that she had done for Framingham, with the Center being an important result of her effort and dedication to serving the people of Framingham.

The Center office is located on the main floor of the Main Library, across from the main circulation desk and off the corridor on the way to where the Friends of the Library hold their monthly booksale. The Center will be open Monday through Thursday from 2pm- 6pm, and will be closed on Fridays. It will begin opening on Saturday mornings, from 9:00am – 12:00pm beginning on November 4th. These hours will expand as the list of volunteers grows. It is hoped that volunteers can stay for a 2 hour period on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Volunteer training will be offered on Wednesday, October 25th, from 5:30 – 7:30pm.
