League of Women Voters presents Panel on Darfur

March 09, 2007  (19:15:07 EST)

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- The Framingham League of Women Voters will present a panel discussion on the Darfur crisis in Sudan on Sunday, March 18 at 2:00pm at the Framingham High School auditorium. Darfur: Working Toward a Solution will raise awareness about this international crisis, stimulate discussion, and provoke action.

The topic is extremely timely as the Massachusetts legislature is currently debating Senate Docket 01591, a bill that would require the State pension fund to divest from targeted companies doing business with Sudan.

Panelists will include Eric Cohen and Sifa Nsengimana, Co-chairs of the Massachusetts Coalition to Save Darfur, and Liz Lucas, Humanitarian Press Officer at Oxfam America, an international relief organization providing direct aid to the victims in the region. Cohen also chairs the Fidelity Out Of Sudan Campaign, and Nsengimana is an international activist and survivor of the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

Representatives from the Massachusetts state and federal delegations have been invited to share their views and participate in the discussion.

Directions to Framingham High School can be found at the League’s website http://framingham.ma.lwvnet.org/calendar.html. For more information call Susan Lebold, LWV Framingham Program Chair, at 508-877-2595
