Legislative Delegation Announces Framingham Receives $500K for Bowditch

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- Senator Karen Spilka, Representative Tom
Sannicandro and Representative Pam Richardson announced Friday, November 7, 2008 that Framingham has received a $500,000 grant from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) for renovations to Bowditch
Field.

The grant was awarded under EEA's Parkland Acquisitions and
Renovations for Communities (PARC) Program.

"This is a great opportunity for Framingham to revitalize an existing asset and give a whole new generation of town residents the opportunity to benefit from and enjoy Bowditch Field," stated Senator Spilka. "This
is a substantial investment in Framingham's outdoor spaces."

"This grant and the renovations it will bring represent an exciting moment for the town." said State Representative Tom Sannicandro. "Bowditch Field has long been a great source of pride for the community and this grant will ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy this historic field."

"Bowditch field is one of the most important recreational spaces in Framingham. I am pleased that the Executive Administration recognized how vital these renovations will be to the community," said Rep. Richardson. "In a time when there have been across the board budget cuts, it is reassuring to see this important project receive funding
from the Commonwealth."

"The Bowditch Project is key to the economic development, cultural advancement, and quality recreational opportunities in Framingham. The grant will financially assist the Town with its long range planning and vision," stated Bob Merusi, Framingham Director of Parks and Recreation.

The grant will be used towards renovations to the field's concrete grandstands. It will also be used to create ADA-compliant bathrooms, locker rooms, and a referee station. Improvements will be made to the concession stand and the streetscape.

The PARC program provides grant assistance to cities and towns to acquire parkland, develop new parks, or renovate existing outdoor public recreation facilities. It was formerly known as the Urban Self-Help Program.
