FRAMINGHAM, MA - The Framingham State University football team received three turnovers from their defense which the offense converted into 14 points as the Rams defeated Plymouth State University 34-3 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Framingham’s Bowditch Field.

With the win, the Rams remain atop the MASCAC standings at 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Panthers slip to 2-5 on the year and now 1-4 in the MASCAC.

Framingham, MA - Sophomore outfielder Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with five RBI to lead the Framingham State University baseball team to an 11-1 non-conference victory over Keene State College in the Rams home opener this afternoon at Bowditch Field.

With the win, the Rams even their record at 8-8 on the year, while the Owls slide to 4-8 overall.

Wardwell led the Rams potent offense with his two hits, five RBI and a run scored, while freshman Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Powers also tossed an inning of scoreless relief to close the game for the Rams.

Framingham, MA - Framingham State University senior wide receiver Tyrone Figueroa accounted for a pair of touchdowns as the Rams shutout the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon and picked up a 30-0 win in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) cross divisional game at Framingham's Bowditch Field.

The Rams, who last recorded a shutout on October 1st, 2010 in a 26-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy, improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Corsairs are still in search of their first victory of the year as they drop to 0-3.

Running Club Elects Ed Stoll President

Ed Stoll, recently elected President of the Greater Framingham Running Club, (GFRC).

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Framingham resident Ed Stoll was recently elected President of the Greater Framingham Running Club, (GFRC).

Stoll takes over for club member Derek Perkins of Sudbury who served in the role for the past two years. The club serves members from eastern Massachusetts, with the majority being MetroWest residents.

Other newly-elected officers include: Eric Jacobsen of Framingham as Uniform Director, and Jeff Hattem of Natick as Activities Director.

Additionally, the following were re-elected: Arnie Pollinger of Holliston as Vice President; Barry Ostrow of Ashland and Marie Leigh of Hudson as Co-Treasurers; Jen Fields of Westborough as Web Director; Mike Gannon of Bedford as Membership Director; Bill Robertson of Ashland as Newsletter Editor; and Susan Richardson of Framingham as Secretary. Tom Abbott and Alison Black, both of Natick, will serve as Grand Prix race Co-Directors.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Under the direction of Mr. Brian Cervone, band director at Framingham High School -- and in association with the Performing Arts Center of Metrowest, The Blazers Band is being revived as the Framingham Blazers Summer Band.

Participation is open to musicians in grades 8-12 as well as adults. Those who play wind instruments, percussion, and string instruments are encouraged to sign up.

Rehearsals will be at PAC, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and occasional Tuesdays, starting June 22nd, 2011. There's still time to register, and it's free!

History of the Blazers Band

Founded in 1960 in conjunction with the Framingham Parks & Recreation Department, The Blazers Band was Framingham's hometown band throughout the 1960's, 70's and 80's .

Founder and first musical director, Mr. Paul Bordeleau, was a teacher at Framingham's now-defunct Lincoln Junior High School and wanted a way for Framingham kids to continue practicing and playing their band instruments after the school year ended.  In 1963, when the newly constructed Framingham North High School was built, Mr. Bordeleau became the school's first band director.

The Blazers Band was a family oriented organization -- a group of Framingham ladies sewed the red and white striped blazers that band members wore, and decades of Framingham families supported the band and participated in band activities.

The organization grew to include the marching band, a color guard, jazz band, a stage band that performed "Big Band" style,  and of course -- The Blazeretts, a troupe of baton twirlers in matching red and ...[read more]
