Framingham DPW to pickup Christmas Trees weeks of January 23rd-27th, 2012.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- It's been nearly a month since Christmas, and if you still have a Christmas tree in your home, it's most likely very dried out -- and could be a fire hazard at this point in time.

Dried out trees should be removed from your home or business and placed outdoors, away from any [cigarette] smoking areas or other possible sources of ignition until the tree can be properly disposed of.

The Town of Framingham Department of Public Works will be  collecting Christmas Trees during the week of  January 23rd through 27th, 2012. You should put your tree on the curb on your normal trash collection day.

The DPW will only pickup trees if all decorations, strands of lights, tinsel/garland, etc, have been removed -- and the tree can not be in a plastic bag, (or it will not be picked up).

For additional information about Christmas Tree Curbside Collection contact the Framingham Department of  Public Works, Solid Waste Division at:  (508) 532-6001.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, from 12:00 Noon until 8:00pm, the Town of Framingham Recycling Center is holding a *Free! Electronics Recycle Event.

Framingham residents can drop off "anything with a power cord or a power button", (tv sets, computers, kitchen appliances, home entertainment equipment, computers, monitors, vacuum cleaners -- if it has a power cord or power button, they'll take it).

Residents do not have to have a recycle center sticker for this event, but will be asked to produce a drivers license showing they are a Framingham resident.

*As this is being promoted as a "free" event, the Recycling Center will waive the normal $10 permit fee for residents who donate (1) non-perishable food item for each electronic item dropped-off.

The food items will be donated to Framingham-based food pantries.

Electronics will be recycled by E. L. Harvey & Sons, Inc.

The Framingham Recycling Center is located 255 Mt. Wayte Ave.,  (the building which was formerly the town incinerator is located between Franklin St. and Fountain St., across from the Juvenile Court, near Farm Pond).

Styrofoam Recycling Event Sat. October 24th

Filed under: Around Town,Home & Garden by Deb Cleveland at 7:30 pm on October 15, 2009

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Many don't realize that styrofoam never decomposes, (it never "breaks down" into organic material), like some other trash. Styrofoam remains in landfills forever. This effects us all personally as costs of products and services increase due to the increased cost of finding ways and places to dispose of garbage.

Framingham does not currently accept Styrofoam in its recycling program, but some companies are finding ways to give old Styrofoam new life in new uses.

Grace Congregational UCC church in conjunction with ReFoamit, LLC, is sponsoring a Styrofoam collection Day on Saturday, October 24 from 9Am to 4PM. Please collect and donate your clean (washed) styrofoam products including: takeout containers, packing pellets, coffee cups, disposable plates, inserts from large packages. (Please remove all tape from the Styrofoam)

There will be refreshments, prizes, gifts and environmental information at this free event. Parents and children are encouraged to participate in the "kids corner" activities and come away with their own original creations.

Grace Congregational UCC Church is at 76 Salem End Road between Rt. 9 (High St.) and Winter St. near Framingham State College.
