NEW BUSES SERVING METROWEST ON FORMER LIFT ROUTES
December 06, 2007 (17:38:20 EST)
FRAMINGHAM, MA -- The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority, created in July to coordinate the region's public transportation needs, has put 10 new buses on the road to serve MetroWest residents. The buses replace Framingham’s former LIFT bus system and were funded by state and Federal grants. The buses will run on the same routes as the LIFT buses serving Framingham, Natick, Southborough, Marlborough, Ashland, Hopkinton, Holliston, and Milford.
The new buses have bike racks and motorized wheelchair lifts and through new technology developed at Bridgewater State College, can be tracked on the Internet. Riders can find out where the buses are and estimate how soon they will be arriving at a location where they want to board them. Fares are still $ 1.50 for adults, 75 cents for seniors, and children under six years old ride free.
The buses originate at the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority’s location at 160 Waverly St. For more information about the MRTA and the buses, call 508-935-2222 or visit the new website: www.mrta.com.
