Volunteers needed at Callahan Center for 4-hour shifts. Must be computer-literate and committed. Very interesting job. Please call 508-532-5980, ext. 4102.

WELLNESS PROGRAMS:

Support Groups at Callahan Senior Center:

• Bereavement Support Group: Mondays, May 3, 10, 17 & 24 at 10:00 am.

• ‘Better Breathers’ Support Group: Wednesday, May 12 at 12:00 pm.

• Caregivers’ Support Group: Wednesday, May 26 at 1:00 pm.

• Diabetes Support Group: Tuesday, May 25 at 10:00 am.

• Grandparent Support Group: Wednesday, May 26 at 7:00 pm. Please call the Center to confirm in the event of a change.

• Low Vision Group: Friday, May 21 at 1:00 pm.

• Massage Therapy: Thursday, May 6 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm (by appt. only).

• Parkinson’s Support Group: Tuesday, May 18 at 1:30 pm.

• Podiatry: Wed., May 12 with Dr. John 1:00 - 4:00 pm & Wed., May 26 with Dr. Lukoff from 1:00 - 3:30 pm (by appt. only).

• Stroke Survivors’ Support Group: Monday, May 3 at 1:00 pm.

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC FOR MAY: Wednesdays, May 5, 12, 19 & 26 - 9:30am—12:30pm

FREE Screenings will take place at the Callahan Center:

• Tuesday, May 4th from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon for Cholesterol & Blood Glucose Screening

• Tuesday, May 11th from 10:00 - 12:00 noon for Bone Density Screening

• Tuesday, May 18th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm - Skin Cancer Screening.

SENIOR WEEK ACTIVITIES:

Senior Week at Callahan Center: Monday, May 3rd from 9:30 am—11:30 am - “Open House” at Callahan Center. If you have not been to the Center, please bring a friend, come for a tour, a copy of our newsletter and refreshments.

Tuesday, May 4th from 9:00 am—11:30 am - Keefe Technical High School Cosmetology students will be offering free haircuts and manicures. Gratuities are welcomed. Please call the Center at 508-532-5980 to make an appointment and specify haircut or manicure.

Wednesday, May 5th at 11:15 am - Cameron Middle Chamber Orchestra will be here to entertain the Seniors with some of their new musical pieces. Immediately following the Jazz Band, there will pizza and soft drinks with a ‘Special’ Bingo.

Thursday, May 6th from 4:00-7:00 pm - “50’s Dance with Bob Fisher and Pizza Party—Break out those poodle skirts and bobby sox and come and jitterbug to your favorite 50’s songs!

Friday, May 7th at 11:30 am - “Jewels of Framingham” Luncheon for those seniors 90 years of age and over. This event is (by invitation only).

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS & EVENTS:

Monday, May 10th at 10:00 am - The Framingham Garden Club will be at the Center to assist seniors with creating a Mother’s Day arrangement. The fee for this class is $5.00 and includes all materials. Seating is limited to 12 and we ask that you please bring your own scissors. Please call the Center at 508-532-5980 to sign up.

Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1:00 pm - Friends of Callahan will hold their general meeting at the Callahan Center. Entertainment will be provided by Jim Duncan & the Southborough Senior Singers

May 24, 2010, 2010 at 1:30 pm - AARP Chapter 3557 general meeting will take place at the Callahan Center.

Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - “The Changing Seasons of New England” - An Acrylic Painting Workshop at Callahan Center. A painting workshop for adults with artist/instructor Kathleen Nadolny Wirtanen. A donation of $3.00 is requested. All supplies are included. Register early. Class size is limited to 20. Little or no experience needed. Please call the Center at 508-532-5980 to sign up.

Saturday, May 22, 2010 - Callahan Center 2nd Annual Senior/Boomer Conference from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm.

Are you ready to get outdoors and have fun ?? Dust off those golf clubs and join the Callahan Golf Group starting on Wednesday, May 12th at 9:30 am at Stoneybrook Golf Course, 70 Valley Road, Southboro. For more information, please call Rosalie Cotton at 508-877-0681.

Heritage Gallery - A Consignment Shop:

Come visit us at the Heritage Gallery, browse the wonderful selection of donated and consigned items. Shop for your Mother in the gallery, bring your Mother into the Gallery and let her pick an item to enjoy. We carry jewelry, dishes, pocketbooks, figurines—a real eclectic selection. The Gallery continues to be open 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
