The MetroWest Commission on the Status of Women was established through legislation filed by Senator Karen Spilka and signed into law by Governor Deval Patrick on October 1, 2014. Per its enabling legislation, the Commission is charged with conducting an ongoing study of matters concerning women within the MetroWest area. The Commission is mandated to report its findings to the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women annually and to recommend solutions to the challenges facing the women and girls of the MetroWest area.
“The new MetroWest Commission will find ways to advance women and girls in our communities and help them to succeed and lead,” said Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland). “I’m pleased to congratulate the first group of commissioners. These impressive leaders will do a terrific job promoting equality and opportunity and making sure that MetroWest women have a voice locally and state-wide.”
The appointees were selected from a large number of highly qualified and impressive candidates representing strength and diversity in terms of geography, age, professional background and personal experiences. They share a common commitment to the improvement of the status of women in the MetroWest region.
