{"id":10870,"date":"2023-06-08T22:53:31","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T03:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/?p=10870"},"modified":"2023-06-08T22:54:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-09T03:54:09","slug":"framingham-man-indicted-for-felon-in-possession-of-firearms-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2023\/06\/08\/general-interest\/framingham-man-indicted-for-felon-in-possession-of-firearms-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Framingham Man Indicted on Felon in Possession of Firearms Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/edwin_alago_framingham-police-booking-photo_20221110.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10873\" width=\"276\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/edwin_alago_framingham-police-booking-photo_20221110.jpg 403w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/edwin_alago_framingham-police-booking-photo_20221110-275x300.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/edwin_alago_framingham-police-booking-photo_20221110-137x150.jpg 137w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/edwin_alago_framingham-police-booking-photo_20221110-300x328.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Edwin Alago, 42, of Framingham, MA,  indicted on felon in possession of a firearms, (<em>Framingham Police booking photo<\/em> from related arrest in 2022).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FRAMINGHAM, MA<\/strong> -- The U.S. Justice Department's Office of State Attorney, Massachusetts Division announced a <strong>Framingham<\/strong> man <strong><strong>Edwin Alago, 42<\/strong><\/strong> was indicted on <strong>two counts<\/strong> of being a <strong>felon in possession of a firearm<\/strong> and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alago was previously arrested on related state charges and will appear in federal court at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the indictment, in <strong>May 2021<\/strong>, Alago possessed a SCCY <strong>.9mm CPX-2 semi-automatic pistol<\/strong> bearing a<strong> defaced serial number<\/strong> and seven rounds of .9mm <strong>ammunition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is further alleged that, in <strong>November 2022<\/strong>, Alago possessed a <strong>Colt, automatic, .25mm pistol<\/strong> and six rounds of .25 caliber <strong>ammunition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to multiple previous felony convictions for drug distribution and possession and assault with a dangerous weapon, Alago is considered an armed career criminal and is prohibited from possessing firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charge of being a felon in possession provides for a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to Alago\u2019s status as an <strong>armed career criminal<\/strong>, he<strong> faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison<\/strong>. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy<\/strong> and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms &amp; Explosives, Boston Field Division made the announcement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Valuable assistance was provided by the <strong>Middlesex County District Attorney\u2019s Office<\/strong> and the <strong>Framingham Police Department<\/strong>. Assistant <strong>United States Attorney<\/strong> Meghan C.
