{"id":11512,"date":"2024-12-15T18:06:16","date_gmt":"2024-12-15T23:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/?p=11512"},"modified":"2024-12-17T19:45:23","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T00:45:23","slug":"hackers-steal-framingham-heart-study-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2024\/12\/15\/uncategorized\/hackers-steal-framingham-heart-study-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Hackers Steal Framingham Heart Study Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"228\" height=\"227\" src=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/three_heart_logo-2002.gif\" alt=\"Framingham Heart Study (logo 2002)\" class=\"wp-image-11513\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>FRAMINGHAM, MA<\/strong> - On Sunday, September 8, 2024, data related to participants of <strong>The Framingham Heart Study<\/strong> was stolen from a <strong>Boston University<\/strong> (BU) server.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Data for all 15,448 participants was involved in the breach.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hackers gained access to the server, compressed files containing<strong> personal data of all participants<\/strong> and downloaded the archive containing copies of all participants personal data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to information posted on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2024\/investigation-into-hacking-of-fhs-data\/\">BU Today<\/a><\/strong>, the stolen data \"<em><strong>may have included name, address, date of birth, telephone number, email address, sex, race, ethnicity, self-reported broad income and occupational categories, signature, and medical information<\/strong><\/em>\".
