{"id":1967,"date":"2010-05-20T23:37:54","date_gmt":"2010-05-21T04:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/framingham.com\/news\/?p=1967"},"modified":"2011-03-27T03:44:45","modified_gmt":"2011-03-27T08:44:45","slug":"state-auctions-1000-items-on-ebay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2010\/05\/20\/uncategorized\/state-auctions-1000-items-on-ebay\/","title":{"rendered":"State Auctions 1000 Items on eBay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1970\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160428804067.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1970\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1970\" title=\"18K GOLD NECKLACE\" src=\"http:\/\/framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160428804067-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"18K GOLD NECKLACE\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160428804067-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160428804067.jpg 793w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/em><p id=\"caption-attachment-1970\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">18K GOLD NECKLACE sold for $1,875.00<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>BOSTON, MA<\/strong> - In the old days, when Massachusetts State government had items to auction off they would publish a public notice in several major newspapers and mail out a list to a few hundred <em>in-the-know<\/em> auction hounds, junk dealers, surplus buyers and collectors of all sorts of things.<\/p>\n<p>The state would then take sealed bids for larger items, and arrange public auctions\u00a0 where a <em>real live<\/em> auctioneer would call out, \"<em>Who'll give me $5.00?, ...$4.00? $3.00?<\/em>\" ...the bidding would start -- and then usually end just as quickly -- with many valuable items selling for pennies on the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Times have changed and now the State aims to get the most they can for<!--more--> each and every item.\u00a0 To get the best price, the State now uses the auctioneer with the largest pool of potential bidders -- eBay.<\/p>\n<p>MA State Treasurer Tim Cahill setup an eBay seller account, (\"<em>state.treasurer.cahill<\/em>\"), and there are currently about 400 auction lots listed in the account.\u00a0 Cahill is running his \"<em><strong>Abandoned Property eBay Auction Live<\/strong><\/em>\" from <strong>April 24th through July 3rd, 2010. <\/strong>So far he's listed about 1000 lots,<em> (approximately 600 of the auctions have already ended)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1971\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160429095725.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1971\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1971\" title=\"GOLD BRACELET WITH 32 CHARMS\" src=\"http:\/\/framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160429095725-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"GOLD BRACELET WITH 32 CHARMS\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160429095725-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/160429095725.jpg 791w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/em><p id=\"caption-attachment-1971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gold Bracelet with 32 Charms Sold for $1,913.99<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The majority of the items are better quality jewelry and U.S. coins -- items which usually attract a lot of eBay bidders.<\/p>\n<p>A quick search of <em>completed auctions<\/em> shows some items have brought in close to $2000 each!<\/p>\n<p>The two items that sold for the highest amounts (so far) were an <strong>18K GOLD NECKLACE<\/strong>, (which sold for <strong>$1,875.00<\/strong> on May 07, 2010 with 24 bids, eBay Item #160428804067), and a <strong>GOLD BRACELET WITH 32 CHARMS<\/strong>, (which sold for <strong>$1,913.99<\/strong> on May 09, 2010 with 31 bids, eBay Item #160429095725).\u00a0 Many others items have sold for as little as $1.00 ...one went for even less.<\/p>\n<p>One of the more interesting upcoming items is a lot of U.S. pennies and two-cent coins which date to the 1820's.\u00a0 Bidding was already up to $197.50 with 16 bids already placed and 12 hours to go. At the time this article was written there were 400 items listed and schedule to end during the next week.<\/p>\n<p>I noted that most items were listed <em>around noon<\/em>, <em>(so those auction will end 7 days later at the same time of day).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On eBay buyers can leave feedback after purchasing an item, (positive, neutral or negative feedback).<\/p>\n<p>Most buyers seem happy with the items they receive.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 489 <em>feedbacks<\/em> Cahill has gotten in the past 12 month, only\u00a0 (3) were negative feedback comments.
