{"id":238,"date":"2009-10-26T22:05:26","date_gmt":"2009-10-27T03:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/framingham.com\/wordpress\/?p=238"},"modified":"2010-04-05T21:11:49","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T02:11:49","slug":"pumpkins-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2009\/10\/26\/around-town\/pumpkins-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Pumpkins Away!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the great things about Framingham is that you can get to lots of fun places on less than a tank of gas.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend we headed up to Greenfield New Hampshire to see pumpkins thrown by a trebuchet (a super-sized catapolt.)\u00a0 A farmer, inspired by a program on PBS about these medieval war weapons, built a trebuchet and has been demonstrating it on weekends by launching pumpkins over 1000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the Medieval war machine, he also built a mock castle, a huge spiked mace, and created a moat like pond across the street from his farm stand.\u00a0 A snack stand is housed in a turret like hut.<\/p>\n<p>It's charming and awesome, and free to wander and watch the demonstrations.\u00a0 While there is a donation bowl, there is no charge.<\/p>\n<p>The farm stand is modest and fairly priced\u00a0and we bought some of the best and largest apples that we have enjoyed in a long time.\u00a0\u00a0 It was a fun day away for very little and a different kind of destination for a family adventure.<\/p>\n<p>The trebuchet is named \"The Yankee Siege\" and the owners have entered in in \"pumpkin chuckin\" contests and have vanquished all comers.<\/p>\n<p>There's one more weekend to enjoy the demonstrations.\u00a0 The farm stand and fantasy castle land are located on Route 31 in Greenfield, NH.\u00a0 To learn more, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yankeesiege.com\">www.yankeesiege.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the great things about Framingham is that you can get to lots of fun places on less than a tank of gas.
