{"id":260,"date":"2009-12-13T15:29:18","date_gmt":"2009-12-13T20:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/framingham.com\/wordpress\/?p=260"},"modified":"2009-12-13T15:29:18","modified_gmt":"2009-12-13T20:29:18","slug":"fhss-marvelous-marketplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2009\/12\/13\/schools-education\/fhss-marvelous-marketplace\/","title":{"rendered":"FHS's Marvelous Marketplace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a week since the Framingham High Marketplace, but I am still in awe of the great spirit of cooperation evident among the parents and students who pulled together the event.<\/p>\n<p>To support the school's athletics, the various teams and their parents pitched in to make money to fund their activities.\u00a0 They didn't just create another holiday shopping event, they embellished it with entertainment, and with creative ways of making money with raffles and sales of goodies and gifts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For vendors, it was a dream experience as far as set up and break down.\u00a0 Parent greeters and facilitators directed students to help with loading and unloading.\u00a0\u00a0 Shuttle service was provided to and from parking.\u00a0 Tables and chairs were provided at a nominal fee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For shoppers there was a good mix of vendors with reasonably priced goods.\u00a0 Among the more unique items were desk signs made from Scrabble tiles and bags stitched from Capri Sun drink pouches.<\/p>\n<p>While some traditions, such as Flag Day celebrations, have gone by the wayside due to lack of funds and volunteer support, the Framingham High Marketplace looks to be an indicator that the community still has\u00a0 the will and spirit to come together to create and nourish new volunteer initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a week since the Framingham High Marketplace, but I am still in awe of the great spirit of cooperation evident among the parents and students who pulled together the event.
