{"id":279,"date":"2010-01-19T21:21:19","date_gmt":"2010-01-20T02:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/framingham.com\/wordpress\/?p=279"},"modified":"2010-04-05T21:04:53","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T02:04:53","slug":"the-vote-getting-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2010\/01\/19\/politics\/the-vote-getting-out\/","title":{"rendered":"The Vote Getting Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today was election day in Massachusetts to decide who will succeed Senator Ted Kennedy.\u00a0 I didn't head to vote until around 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>As the snow fell in bigger and bigger clumps, the driveway in and out of the King School was\u00a0clogged with cars, more than I've ever experienced when going to vote.<\/p>\n<p>The closest experience was some years ago when I recall there was an overide on the ballot.\u00a0 I think of it as the walkers vs. strollers election.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At the time I saw more seniors with walkers and more young parents with strollers than at any other election in memory.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight I saw a variety of ages again.\u00a0 I was struck by the number of parents with very young children toughing it out.\u00a0 I saw one mother with a heavy baby carrier in one hand, holding a small child by the hand with the other, making her way through the slushy and snowbordered\u00a0parking area, silhouetted by the oncoming headlights of a line of cars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The voters were out, and determined.\u00a0 They were galvanized by the contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Having a son in the service, the voters validated his commitment to protect our way of life and freedom to vote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today was election day in Massachusetts to decide who will succeed Senator Ted Kennedy.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t head to vote until around 5:30 p.m. As the snow fell in bigger and bigger clumps, the driveway in and out of the King School was\u00a0clogged with cars, more than I&#8217;ve ever experienced when going to vote.
