{"id":7822,"date":"2013-06-05T15:34:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-05T20:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/?p=7822"},"modified":"2022-12-09T15:34:44","modified_gmt":"2022-12-09T20:34:44","slug":"robots-geek-art-tech-toys-and-other-summer-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2013\/06\/05\/uncategorized\/robots-geek-art-tech-toys-and-other-summer-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Robots, Geek Art, Tech Toys and other Summer Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>FRAMINGHAM, MA<\/strong> - When someone mentions \"STEM\", <em>(Science Technology Engineering and Math)<\/em>, a lot of kids groan and think of homework and testing -- but MassBay Community College is offering something different this summer -- they're gonna' teach high school kids how to build robots, do projects in engineering, computer programming, smartphone application, (\"app\"), programming,&nbsp; 3-D computer modeling, interactive multimedia, race robots, do art with robots -- oh, and did I mention ROBOTS!<\/p>\n<p>Better still -- this is a low cost, 2-week summer program for high school kids, <em>(<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and<\/span> there are ROBOTS involved!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><\/strong><\/em>While many summer programs can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a week of \"fun\", since this program is mostly grant funded,&nbsp;<strong>the cost for 2-weeks is only $100 per student<\/strong> -- end not only does it sound like fun, it's educational!<\/p>\n<p>If you're a <strong>Framingham high school student <\/strong>looking for something new and challenging to do this summer should consider taking these courses or workshops, ()<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2-week program runs July 8th through July 19th, 2013 ,<em> (for a total of 10 weekdays -- Mon-Fri, 9:00am 'til 3:30pm).<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>STEM Summer Bridge 2013 Options:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There are three options students can choose from.<\/p>\n<p>The first two are 10-day \"<em>for credit \/ transferable\"<\/em> courses and are being offered only to students who will entering their junior or senior year this fall<em>\/<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Credit Courses:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>MN130 - Engineering Designs Come to Life with 3-D Technology -<\/strong> a 10 day,&nbsp;hands-on, project based, intensive engineering design course<em>.<em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>CS140 - interactive multimedia to Create Animation<\/strong> - a 10-day intensive, hands-on, project based, interactive multimedia course<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Workshops:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Spend the 10-days spread out into (4) 2.5 day, fun, creative, educational, workshops. <em>(workshops are open to all high school students and do not earn college credit)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ArtBotics<\/strong> -&nbsp; (art + robotics), build a flower or a toy and make it move!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robots!<\/strong> - Lego Mindstorm Competion: Race To The Finish!<\/li>\n<li><strong>AppInventor<\/strong> - mobile app programming for Android based phones.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scratch<\/strong> - programming, games, storytelling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Programs are in association with the <strong>U.S.&nbsp;<\/strong> <strong>National Science Foundation<\/strong>, (<a title=\"National Science Foundation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.nsf.gov<\/a>), <strong>AMP it Up!<\/strong> Advanced Manufacturing Program of MA, (<a title=\"AMP it Up!
