A pianist played \"<em>mood music\"<\/em> along with the films.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Friday, November 8th, 2013<\/strong>, slip into the past at the Framingham Main Library.<\/p>\n<p>The library's Friday Night Film will be a <em>Silent Movie Show<\/em> featuring <strong>Richard Hughes<\/strong>, <em><strong>Silent Movies <\/strong><strong>Pianis<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong><\/em> who will set the mood as black &amp; white films flicker on the screen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7967\" style=\"width: 134px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/richard-hughes-silent-movies-pianist.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7967\" class=\" wp-image-7967 \" alt=\"Richard Hughes, Silent Movies Pianist\" src=\"http:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/richard-hughes-silent-movies-pianist-266x300.jpg\" width=\"124\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/richard-hughes-silent-movies-pianist-266x300.jpg 266w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/richard-hughes-silent-movies-pianist.jpg 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Richard Hughes, Silent Movies Pianist<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hughes, who began classical piano training at age 7, spent over a decade researching and scoring \"mood music\" pieces to recreate the original period sound of the 1920's \"silent movie\" houses.<\/p>\n<p>He writes on his website, \"Every time I screen another old silent film and prepare a musical score for it, I feel like a geologist who has just discovered a rare find hidden deep in ancient layers of rock. Many of these films are gems and my mission is to reacquaint, introduce, educate, and entertain audiences of all ages to the silent<!--more--> movie industry of our not-so-distant past.\"<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7964\" style=\"width: 170px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/imdb_wrong-again_laurel-hardy_1929.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7964\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7964\" alt=\"''Wrong Again'', (1929), Laurel and Hardy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/imdb_wrong-again_laurel-hardy_1929-160x300.jpg\" width=\"160\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">''Wrong Again'', (1929), Laurel and Hardy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He now performs shows at schools and for general entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The evening's feature film is Charlie Chaplin's <strong>\"The Kid\"<\/strong><em> (1921) 68 mins. -- <\/em>a potent combination of comedy and emotion as Chaplin in his famous persona as <em>\"The Tramp\"<\/em> unwillingly adopts an abandoned baby.\u00a0 The film, which was written and directed by Chaplin also stars Edna Purviance and Jackie Coogan.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the night's bill is the comedy short,<strong> \"Wrong Again\"<\/strong> <em>(1929) 20 mins.<\/em>, staring Stan Laurel &amp; Oliver Hardy. In classic style, the comedy team overhears conversation about a $5000 reward for \"Blue Boy\", (a painting),\u00a0 but mistakenly think \"Blue Boy\" is a thoroughbred racehorse which they take and try to return to claim the reward.<\/p>\n<p>There is no charge for admission.
