{"id":9776,"date":"2021-07-12T17:53:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T22:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/?p=9776"},"modified":"2021-07-12T22:19:10","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T03:19:10","slug":"framingham-restaurant-operators-received-millions-in-federal-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/2021\/07\/12\/business\/framingham-restaurant-operators-received-millions-in-federal-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Framingham Restaurant Operators Received Millions in Federal Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FRAMINGHAM, MA<\/strong> -- During the early months of the COVID-19 global pandemic, many restaurants struggled to stay in business as eat-in dining was prohibited by emergency orders from state and local officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To avoid the chain-reaction of business failure, followed by employee layoffs which could drive unemployment and a further economic downturn a grant program known as the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/loans\/covid-19-relief-options\/restaurant-revitalization-fund\" target=\"_blank\">Restaurant Revitalization Fund<\/a> (RRF) was established as part of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1319\/text\" target=\"_blank\">American Rescue Plan Act of 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The RFF is administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide funding <em>\"to help restaurants and other eligible businesses keep their doors open.\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Restaurants could receive funding equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss, (up to $10 million per business!)  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Below is a list of some of the Framingham based restaurant operators who received grants from the RRF:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>AMOUNT - CORPORATION NAME, (Restaurant Name)<\/strong><\/li><li>$673,325 - 5 Star Restaurant Group Inc, (Samba Steak &amp; Sushi)<\/li><li>$388,529 - Paul's Restaurant Inc, (Bella Costa Restaurant) <\/li><li>$364,096 - XZH Inc (Samba West \/ China Gourmet of Framingham)<\/li><li>$229,996 - Tina's Group Inc. (Imperial China)<\/li><li>$128,959 - J&amp;M Diner Inc. (J &amp; M Diner)<\/li><li>$126,370 - Shri Ram Inc. (Subway, Rt. 9)<\/li><li>$103,981 - Pueblito Paisa Inc. (Pueblito Paisa Colombia Restaurant)<\/li><li>$103,631 - Frescafe Inc. (Frescafe)<\/li><li>$97,578 - N&amp;S Pizza Company Inc. (Neko's of New York)<\/li><li>$81,383 - Biryani Pot LLC (Biryani Pot)<\/li><li>$79,069 - Chikama LLC (Nzuko Restaurant)<\/li><li>$39,905 - Hospitality Solutions Services (kous-kous)<\/li><li>$7,591 - Vishva Inc. (The Sub-way)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>RRF recipients<strong><em> are not required to repay the funding<\/em><\/strong> as long as funds are used for eligible uses by March 11, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible uses include the following specific (pandemic related) expenses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Business payroll costs (including sick leave)<\/li><li>Payments on any business mortgage obligation<\/li><li>Business rent payments (note: this does not include prepayment of rent)<\/li><li>Business debt service (both principal and interest; note: this does not include any prepayment of principal or interest)<\/li><li>Business utility payments<\/li><li>Business maintenance expenses<\/li><li>Construction of outdoor seating<\/li><li>Business supplies (including protective equipment and cleaning materials)<\/li><li>Business food and beverage expenses (including raw materials)<\/li><li>Covered supplier costs<\/li><li>Business operating expenses<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition many of the same business also received <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/loans\/covid-19-relief-options\/paycheck-protection-program\" target=\"_blank\">Paycheck Protection Program<\/a> (PPP) funding from the Federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of May (2021), Massachusetts announced the launch of the \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.visitma.com\/LetsGoOut\" target=\"_blank\">Let\u2019s Go Out<\/a>\u201d campaign, an effort to raise public awareness of the importance of supporting local restaurants which are an integral part of daily life and a key driver of economic activity for \"downtowns and main streets\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitma.com\/LetsGoOut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/letsgoout.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9780\" width=\"709\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/letsgoout.png 820w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/letsgoout-300x138.png 300w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/letsgoout-150x69.png 150w, https:\/\/www.framingham.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/letsgoout-768x354.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 100vw, 709px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>The Massachusetts Office of Travel &amp; Tourism \"Let's Go Out\" campaign to increase local restaurant dining.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch of the $1.9 million \"Let's Go Out\" campaign was timed to coincide with the lifting of public health restrictions in Massachusetts and is scheduled to run throughout the summer, through September (2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">###<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source(s): U.S. Federal Government RRF and PPP data, Mass.gov and MA Sec. of State corporations database.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FRAMINGHAM, MA &#8212; During the early months of the COVID-19 global pandemic, many restaurants struggled to stay in business as eat-in dining was prohibited by emergency orders from state and local officials.
