The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest national organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 U.S. states. The local programs are considered "MOWAA Members".
Locally, Meals on Wheels is administered by Baypath Elder Services, Inc, a Marlborough, MA based non-profit which provides in-home services to elders in Framingham and 13 surrounding communities.
Each day over 500+ meals are prepared by a caterer in Lancaster, MA, then transported to each of the local Senior Centers where individual meals are portioned and prepared for delivery. From The Ashland Senior Center over 200 hot meals are delivered mon-friday for the 4 town area, (Ashland, Framingham, Holliston and Hopkinton). Volunteers are needed for the 15 routes serving these towns. Each route driver delivers approximately 13-18 meals.
Currently, Meals on Wheels delivers approximately 75 to 100 hot lunches Monday through Friday to Framingham home-bound seniors alone. To apply a senior, (60 years of age or older), can schedule a (free) in-home assessment of nutritional needs.
Volunteer drivers are needed from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Monday through Friday -- you can volunteer one day a month, one day a week, or every day. Volunteers must posses a valid drivers license, have proof of vehicle insurance, complete a (1) hour training program and be able to pass a CORI background check. Volunteers are reimbursed ($0.45/mile) for vehicle expenses.
