Things we keep

The April edition of the Framingham Tales and Trivia program on FPAC-TV will be about "old objects that we have always kept."

I have been invited to participate in the panel discussion for this show and am trying to decide what to bring and talk about.

I look around and see things in my home that we have had so long that they are literally like part of the woodwork, some we use, like an old iron doorstop from Nana's house, or wedding presents used only special occasions.

What kinds of things have you kept? And why?

  1. A tin cookie/donut/biscuit cutter and an antique mixing bowl. Both hold special memories of my mom always baking on Danforth St., Saxonville, MA.in the 1940’s and 1950’s. I still use the cookie cutter (it has a flip piece on it so we can cut round cookies or scalloped edge cookies. Also the flip piece lets us cut out donuts (with holes) or biscuits. I don’t use the earthen mixing bowl as I don’t want to break it, but it was used for almost every recipe mom made.

I keep them to help me visualize the wonderful memories of growing up in the 40’s and 50’s. It was sort of like a “Leave It To Beaver” era.
