Framingham, MA - The Framingham State University softball team swept a doubleheader with Becker College this afternoon by scores of 10-2 in six innings and 14-4 in five innings in non-conference action at Farley Field.

With the wins, the Rams improve to 15-17 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 12-18 with the two losses.

The Rams grabbed the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first of the opener. Junior Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.) blooped a two out single to center and moved to second on a pass ball. Freshman Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.) followed with a base hit to right driving in Phillips for the 1-0 advantage.

Becker tied the game in the top of the fourth as they took advantage of a pair of Framingham errors. Sophomore Jessica Wheelahan (Watertown, Conn.) reached and advanced to second on an error and then moved to third on a passed ball. Junior Megan Boldoc (Dover, NH) walked and stole second, but the throw down was muffed at second allowing Wheelahan to scamper home with the tying run. After a strikeout, junior Jessica Brochu (Hardwick, VT) singled advancing Boldoc to third. Brochu was caught stealing at second, but Boldoc came home on the play with the go ahead run.

The Rams tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) that scored freshman Tiffanie Marsh (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who had reached on an error and advanced to third on a second error. Phillips put the Rams on top for good with a single to right. The Rams took advantage of another error on a throw down to second on a steal attempt for their third run of the inning. Belliveau followed with an RBI single putting the Rams up 5-2 after five.

The Rams ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back triples from sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) and Marsh opened the inning and sophomore Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.) and freshman Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) each delivered RBI singles. The game ended on error in the Becker outfield and an overthrow that went out of play allowing the final two runs to score.

Senior Andrea Smith earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going six innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Kelsey Norberg (Uxbridge, Mass.) was tagged with the loss for the Hawks going 5 and a third and allowing 10 runs, four earned, on ten hits with three strikeouts.

In game two, the Rams belted out 20 hits en route to 14 runs and the five inning victory. Falzone went 4-for-4 in the nightcap with a double, a triple, four RBI and a run scored, while freshman Casey Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) each went 3-for-3 with two RBI apiece. Phillips chipped in a pair of hits and pair of RBI in game two with a double, while freshman Allie Morrissey (Barre, Mass.) also chipped in two hits and an RBI with two runs scored.

Wheelahan went 2-for-3 in game two with a pair of RBI for the Hawks in game two, while Katelyn MacLean (North Reading, Mass.) and Bolduc each drove in single runs.

Sophomore Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) earned the victory in the circle for the Rams allowing no runs on one hit in three innings of work as she improved her season record to 7-2 and has won six straight starts.

The Rams are back in action on Friday with a pair of non-conference games at Roger Williams and they close the regular season at home on Saturday when they entertain Mass. Maritime at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
