The 3rd Annual WAYSIDE'S 5K4KIDS returns on Saturday, November 3! Join hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters for a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) run/walk starting and ending at Cushing Memorial Park in Framingham. The run/walk begins at 10am and will be immediately followed by an awards ceremony and a celebration at race headquarters. All participants will receive event t-shirts and timed results. SUNDAY , November 11,2012 at 9 a.m. VETERANS DAY -- Join Temple Beth Am and the Jewish War Veterans of Post 157, Metrowest and Michael Lemish –- Author and Military Dog Historian for breakfast. *** Join Author Michael Lemish as he speaks about his most recent book, "Forever Forward: K-9 Operations in Vietnam". *** "Forever Forward" is the first in depth account of K-9 Operations during the Vietnam War, and provides a behind the scenes look at how Allied Forces employed dog teams in a variety of roles, the evolution of the United State military working dog program, and the aftermath of Vietnam. The 4000 dogs that served with our men in Vietnam in every service branch are America's unsung heroes. America's dog teams averted over 10,000 casualties and worked as scouts, trackers, sentries, mine and tunnel detectors. Michael is a board member of the Space Coast War Dog Association and for 15 years was the historian for the Vietnam Dog Handlers Association. He has contributed to war dog documentaries that have appeared on the History Channel, PRS, BBC, The Discovery Channel, and Histories Mysteries. As an added attraction, come meet Lucy, a German Shepard, a Veteran, and a bomb sniffing dog.
