Newswomen Host Framingham Breast Cancer Fundraiser

''Circle of Five'' fundraiser to benefit the Ellie Fund to be held in Framingham Oct. 26, 2011.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Circle Furniture in Framingham is celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with "Circle of Five" - their fifth annual event to benefit the Needham-based Ellie Fund.

In honor of the fifth anniversary of Channel 5 Reporter Kelley Tuthill's breast cancer diagnosis, five newswomen from WCVB-TV5 are starring in this year's exclusive event on October 26, 2011 at Circle Furniture on Route 9 in Framingham.

3-Day Ahead!

FRAMINGHAM, MA - On Friday, July 22nd, 2011, at 6:30am, for the sixth time in as many years, the starting point and opening ceremony for the Susan G. Komen "3 Day for the Cure" (Boston) walk was held Farm Pond in Framingham.

While the short time spent at Farm Pond was the offical "start", months of fund-raising, preparation and training had already been put in by those who would actually do the walk.

Although framingham.com was there to capture the event in photos, video and interviews.  Real credit for the following photos should go to the women and men who did the 60-mile walk, to those who donated time and money to the cause, and to the organizers and crew who made the event a success.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The 2011 Susan G. Komen "3 Day for the Cure" Boston walk started yesterday morning in Framingham.

In the early morning hours, walkers, supporters, friends and family converged on the shore of Farm Pond off Dudley Rd.

At 6:30a.m., the Opening Ceremony began with group stretching, a welcome from Ronni Cohen-Boyar, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, followed by an inspirational opening address given by Dr. Sheri Phillips, 2011 National Spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen organization.

Boston 3-Day for the Cure Starts at Farm Pond in Framingham, Friday July 22, 2011

FRAMINGHAM, MA- The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk to fund breast cancer research and support local community education, screening and treatment programs.

This year (2011) the Boston 3-Day is July 22nd, 23rd and 24th, and the Opening Ceremony and starting point for the Boston walk is again at Farm Pond in Framingham!

The Boston 3-Day begins Friday morning, July 22, 2011.  Crew members should arrive at 4:00 a.m., walkers should arrive between 5:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m., and the Opening Ceremony, which begins with community stretching is at 6:30 a.m.

I had a chance to speak with Dr. Sheri Phillips, this year's National Spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure organization.

At the start of the interview, I said "I'll ask some questions, and if any are too personal, or you prefer not to answer, or want me to leave anything out -- let me know."

Irene Dunne of Framingham will spend a weekend walking to help eradicate breast cancer by participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Boston on May May 14/15, 2005. The Avon Walk Boston is one of six events in a series of weekend fundraising walks taking place from May to October this year to help raise awareness and funds for access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.

The Avon Walks are non-competitive and structured for walkers of various fitness levels with a choice of completing a marathon walk (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.1 miles) over the Saturday and Sunday.

Dunne, like everyone walking in the event, is required to raise a minimum of $1,800 to participate, but she's aiming higher, with a personal goal of $5,000. She hopes the Metro West residents will share their goodwill towards her efforts. Funds donated to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer are managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, with funds awarded for breast cancer awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; treatment; support services; and scientific research. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based non-profit breast health programs in the vicinities of each Avon Walk event and nationwide.
