Summer Stuff To Do (for Bored Kids)

FRAMINGHAM, MA - During summer vacation many parents may be hearing the all too familiar "I'm bored" from their school age progeny.

Hey Ma! I'm bored!In these "difficult economic times" things to do that are are free or only cost a few dollars -- and don't require excessive driving can help stretch the family budget between trips to Six Flags, Canobie Lake Park or other New England area day trips.

For activities in the list that require traveling in town -- consider having kids go places on MWRTA routes.  Older kids can walk to a neighborhood bus stop, and go by themselves -- relieving their parents of driving duty -- and helping reduce local daytime traffic.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The Danforth Museum of Art is pleased to announce that Executive Director Katherine French was awarded the "She Has Impact" award at the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce Women's Initiative Awards Dinner Tuesday night. The award recognizes French's significant contribution in expanding the quality and reach of the Danforth Museum of Art during her five year tenure.

Bonnie Biocchi, President and CEO of the Metrowest Chamber, noted that, under French's direction, the Danforth has tripled its membership, increased individual donations by 27%, and expanded the operating budget 36%.

The Museum has been recognized with several awards for curatorial excellence and was named “Outstanding Cultural Organization for 2008” by the Massachusetts Art Education Collaborative.  “Under Katherine's leadership, the Danforth has become a premier attraction not just for Framingham but across New England,” Biocchi said. She also commended French for the development of curriculum-based learning for thousands of school children, the creation of a teen docents program, and for curating a number of award-winning exhibitions.

Fountain Street Studios Presents Second Fridays Art Walk Strolls

Framingham, MA - Fountain Street Studios, 59 Fountain Street, Framingham, announces Art Walk Strolls on second Fridays: September, October, November, December, 2009, from 6 - 9 pm. This Fall collaboration begins with an opening reception on Friday, September 11, from 6 - 9pm.

Fountain Street Studios is a thriving artists' community located in the historic Bancroft Building in South Framingham, MA. With over 60 working artists, Fountain Street Studios is diverse and inclusive, and enjoys an excellent rapport with the surrounding community, including other artist groups, as well as both public and private supporters of the arts. A multitude of visual styles and media exist within the group of resident artists whose innate goal is to make art that inspires, excites, breaks boundaries and fosters the creativity in all.

Fountain Street Studios artists are thrilled to open their doors for these monthly strolls. This is a special opportunity to see new and exciting works by many artists in their own creative spaces. The stroll is a fun and casual way to see a wide range of contemporary artworks in a relaxed setting. Fountain Street Studios is handicapped accessible except to wheelchairs, as the freight elevator can only be reached by descending two stairs. The strolls are free and open to the public with plenty of free parking available.
