Boston 3-Day for the Cure Starts at Farm Pond in Framingham, Friday July 22, 2011

FRAMINGHAM, MA- The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk to fund breast cancer research and support local community education, screening and treatment programs.

This year (2011) the Boston 3-Day is July 22nd, 23rd and 24th, and the Opening Ceremony and starting point for the Boston walk is again at Farm Pond in Framingham!

The Boston 3-Day begins Friday morning, July 22, 2011.  Crew members should arrive at 4:00 a.m., walkers should arrive between 5:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m., and the Opening Ceremony, which begins with community stretching is at 6:30 a.m.

I had a chance to speak with Dr. Sheri Phillips, this year's National Spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure organization.

At the start of the interview, I said "I'll ask some questions, and if any are too personal, or you prefer not to answer, or want me to leave anything out -- let me know."

Sheri, the Homewood, Illinois mother of two teenage daughters, and a practicing physician for the past 18 years who is now a 2-year survivor of breast cancer said, "None of it is too personal.  Information is power. FRAMINGHAM, MA - Many residents of Framingham got up early this morning to take a short drive over the town line to Natick.

Some got up early just to make sure they had a good spot to watch Natick's Annual 4th of July Parade -- and others to get ready to be in it.

As a town, we should thank our neighbors to the east for putting together a first-class, traditional, all-American Independence Day parade -- and for being unselfish enough to include Framingham performers, musicians, politicians, classic car owners, fire engines as well as parade watchers.

N.E.W.F.S. Photo Contest - Prize for adult winners will include signed copy of the book ''Wildflowers'' by William Cullina

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Do you enjoy taking photos of plants and flowers in their natural habitat?

The New England Wildflower Society, ("NEWFS"), which operates the "Garden in the Woods" on Hemenway Road is sponsoring a photo contest!

The photograph may be from any season, but the photo must have been shot between April 15, 2011 and October 31, 2011, (October 31st is the deadline for submissions).

Prizes will be awarded for photos in several categories including:

  • single plants
  • groups of plants
  • polinators
  • "scenes" - did you capture a breath-taking scene in the Garden? Submit it! (Note: photos may not have any people in them.)

David Hornfischer Joins BoSox Club Board of Directors

Framingham's own David Hornfischer added to the Bosox Club Board of Directors.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - David Hornfischer of Framingham, MA was recently named a director of the BoSox Club, the Red Sox leading fan club.

Hornfischer who recently retired as Senior Vice President/ Treasurer of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, is also a board member of the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham where his roles are as diverse as organization Treasurer and host of the monthly Amazing Open Comedy Mique Show.

Founded in 1967, The BoSox Club is a non-profit Booster Club that supports the Boston Red Sox. In addition to providing activities such as luncheons and BBQ events with direct access to players and Red Sox personnel, and access to spring training events/tickets, the Club takes an active role in supporting such charities as The Red Sox Foundation, The Jimmy Fund and The Foundation to be Named Later.

One of the most popular BoSox events is their Annual Family Day, where members are treated to a player-run baseball seminar and tickets to a summer game.
