FSU RAMS Baseball Takes the Nightcap 5-0 in Split with Westfield State

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- The Framingham State University baseball team rallied for a 5-0 victory in game two of a doubleheader with the Westfield State Owls to earn the split after falling 6-3 in the opener at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, MA.

In the opener, the Owls grabbed a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Casey Boudreau in the top of the third.  The Rams grabbed a 3-1 lead with three in the bottom of the fourth. Mike Ryan plated a run with a single to left and Matt Shaver and Bobby Higgins reached on infield singles scoring a run apiece.

The Owls plated four in the top of the fifth including a two run single from Nick Martin that tied the game. A sac fly plated the go ahead run and Bryant Dana followed with an RBI single for the 5-3 lead.  Westfield added a single run in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin.

Shane Bogli earned the win on the mound for the Owls going five innings allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. Trevor Edwards tossed a scoreless seventh to earn the save. Robert Sullivan started for the Rams and went three innings allowing one run, while Jack DeCoste took the loss going two innings allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits.

In game two, the Rams broke open a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chris Iannetta got the Rams on the board with an RBI single and Matt Shaver added a two run double. Ryan Boyle capped the inning with an RBI single.  Teaghin Andre tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth inning to earn his first victory of the season after he came on in relief for Lucas Johnsen who tossed three scoreless innings.

Westfield State threatened in the top of the sixth with runners on the corners and one out, but a line out and fly out ended the threat. The Rams added a final run in the bottom of the sixth on a Boyle sacrifice fly to reach the final margin. Vincenzo Camera started for the Owls and went three scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Billy Casey came on in relief and took the loss going an inning and allowing four earned runs on three hits with three walks.

The Rams are on the road next Saturday, April 3, 2021, when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a pair of games beginning at noon.
